Annual Club Barbecue held 9th August 2009

First, many thanks to those who put in time preparing the site and helping set things up, to those who packed everything away again at the end and to Ron who did a sterling job preparing the barbecue (which we all then made excellent use of cooking sausages, chops, beefburgers and other unhealthy but tasty food).  The weather could not have been any better with bright sun and only a slight breeze (which continually shifted direction to keep us all on our toes).  Everyone appeared to have an enjoyable day even though there were a number of 'final' flights.

The pictures below were some of the planes brought down to fly.  Apologies to those of you whose models I didn't get an opportunity to photograph or for those that were not publishable due to an incompetent photographer (you can always e mail me your own photos if you have them and I will add them to the collection).  Thanks also to Bob Taylor for sending his photos for inclusion (his are the good ones).  If your plane appears below I would welcome details being provided for the added interest for our members and site visitors.  I have added or will be adding many of them to your own pages for your planes

There was an excellent turnout and everyone seemed to enjoy the day.  The sun shone (about time), the wind was a meer light breeze that kept changing direction to keep the pilots on their toes.  We ended up standing at the mid point of the side of the field as it changed so often between take of and landing!

Cheers Ron! Thanks for sorting out the Barbecue

Barrie came to the Barbecue 'tooled up'

Dave Williams lovely Fokker Roy Clennell had this little electric beauty
One of the Pacer models Alan and Bob have for sale as built, owned and flown by  Brian Webb
Terry owns this 1/7th scale Aeronca Sedan model Bob Ball enjoyed flying this pretty JP Pretty electric glider made by GreenRC in the near still conditions Andy brought his new T Rex 700 helicopter down and flew with his usual high skill
Bob Herbert flew his Corsair F4U.  It was a struggle to get it back down again as even with full flaps it came in very fast- it just did not want to land!).  Someone should have mentioned though that the arrow on the wing isn't supposed to be pointed at the ground.  Fortunately, no damage done though Roy also gave his German warbird an outing
Cliff's plane looked great in the air but unfortunately it suffered a structural failure and the model ended up in the adjacent ploughed field looking a little the worse for wear but certainly repairable if he chooses Look very closely at this shot and you will see one of the wing stay wires trailing behind the plane Moments before impact.  Not pilot error, but a structural failure resulting in loss of control
Barrie's plane acting as Tug to provide Duncan's Glider with a tow to get him airborn. A number of runs were made which were great to watch
