Annual Club Barbecue held 24th July 2011

First, many thanks to those committee members who arrived early and helped prepare everything, to those who assisted in packing everything away again at the end of the day and to Ron who did a sterling job preparing the barbecue (which we all then made excellent use of cooking sausages, chops, beefburgers and other unhealthy but tasty food).  The weather gave us blue skies with sun but a slightly stronger wind than perhaps we would have liked.  There was an excellent turnout

The day commenced with normal Sunday club flying.  A number of members took the opportunity given to take their 'A' and/or 'B' tests.  Dave Williams successfully attempted his 'A' fixed wing (well done Dave) meanwhile Bob Taylor was thwarted in his attempt at the 'A' fixed wing by a leaking fuel tank preventing a flight.  Andy Dennison was the most successful, passing first his 'A' fixed wing then his 'B' fixed wing and finally his 'A' helicopter test (he couldn't attempt the heli 'B' due to the club not having an examiner for this level) - impressive Andy, but not really in doubt.  Terry made a very good attempt at his 'B' but was defeated by the second consecutive aileron roll.  Ian Newton also attempted his 'B' but crashed out (literally) into a tree while performing the bunt (well there is always another day!).  The balloon popping contest had to be aborted as the wind speed was just to high for the balloons to rise adequately.  After some more general flying the fifth round of the Summer competition was held (see separate account) which was won by David Barker (well done Dave - good to have you back).  Overall, everyone appeared to have an enjoyable day.

(If any other members have photos I can use I would be pleased to receive them)

There was a good turnout and we were blessed with blue skies .....

But the wind was a bit stronger than we might have chosen

Lunch nearly ready with Dave taking his A test in the background

The balloon popping had to be cancelled as the wind stopped the balloons rising

That'll be a fail then will it Nick?

Well that one will take some repairing! Ron worked his usual magic with the Barbecue

Lots of general flying was enjoyed by those present
