Building Projects

Barrie Burton's Choucas building project

The Choucas (French for Jackdaw) is a modern powered glider, available in kit form.  I built a 1/5th size model and although totalled 3 times ( canopy came off in flight, battery failure and a stall on finals),the model flew very well.  Duncan is building an electric version of the original and my original has been repaired.

I wanted to build a really large model that would operate out of our field and be transportable in my car.  The answer was a 1/3rd scale Choucas, being a flying wing, the fus is short and the wing panels fit in my car.  It has a  span of 200 inches and has a wing area of 26 square feet, the weight is 33 lbs.  The root cord is 28 inches, so it should work as a lifting device.

The engine is a MT 42 cc petrol.

First flight has not yet taken place.
