WMF 2008 Competition

2008 Competition Results Round 1

The first round of the 2008 club competition took place on Tuesday evening 22^nd April. The task involved a 100 second flight without the use of any timing aids, followed by a spot landing as close to the 100 second time as possible. Half the total points were awarded for the timed flight and the remaining half for the spot landing part of the task.

The weather was kind to us although I had chosen this task because we could have flown this one as long as it was possible to fly. A fair turnout of eight pilots entered the first round with three using models from previous club competitions, so immediately made them eligible for two extra points, providing the model became airborne. In Brian Webs case this paid off as he had speed controller problems prior to takeoff  but opted to launch his Wizza, basically free flight, towards the spot landing flag in order to qualify, that’s the kind of sporting spirit we want, well done Brian.

The list of results follows with Alan Ballard  and Teresa Pemberton in joint first place. Alan managed 101 second flight and a spot landing within two feet of the flag although a slight interpretation of the rules saw him roll the model on after landing to enable him to get that close. As I had not thought of this possibility beforehand this was allowed as its all for a bit of fun, I guess that’s how the top formula 1 teams manage to keep winning !!!! Teresa’s timed flight was 118 seconds and a spot landing only nine feet from the flag, a good second place score anyway but as she was using a Piccolo was eligible for two extra points and became joint first.

I hope everyone enjoyed themselves, the feedback I received certainly confirmed this. The next round will be on 20^th May, lets see if we can get a dozen entries next time, I haven’t  decided what the next task will be yet but then I wouldn’t tell you anyway.
