WMF 2011 Competition

2011 Competition Results Round 2

May 18th

The second round of the summer competition, open to electric powered models, took place on 18th May in gale force conditions.  As is usual no one knew what it was to be until drawn from a hat.  It turned out to be a competition called "It's a knockout" to be run by Ian Walker.  This involved a Wimbledon style knock out table made easier for the organiser as just 8  members were taking part.  Names were drawn from a hat and written in the first round of the table.

All competitors were asked to prepare their models and put them in the Parc Fermé before being told what the actual task was to be.

On the word "Go" each pair in the first round were to launch or take off then fly a loop followed by a roll and then another loop before landing and remaining in the square. The first pilot to land would go through to the next round.  After 3 rounds a winner emerged.  Then all who were knocked out in the first round competed in the plate event.

It was good to see Teresa and David back at the field. Teresa did not fly and was thus appointed chief judge.  Luckily for the other pilots David did not fly and was made chief scorer.

By the end of the competition at least 3 aircraft were u/s, their pilots pushing just that bit harder whilst competing.

We are still looking for members to run future rounds.  Is it a coincidence that in the two rounds so far this year the organiser has won?
