2008 Competition Results Round 2

The Second round of the 2008 club competition took place on Tuesday evening 20^th April. This months task was an all up last down with a slight difference in that everyone had to descend at random intervals to perform a low pass over the circle. Point scoring was easy this time with the longest flight scoring maximum points, not forgetting any ex club mode scoring an extra two points.

This time saw a turn out of nine pilots to include thee piccolo’s and a whizza and with near perfect weather conditions it was decided to fly just one task with all nine aircraft up at once. In hindsight this was probably not the best decision as two pilots suffered interference probably due to the close proximity of all the frequencies.

With all the models getting away together, everyone climbed to a safe height to conserve as much power as possible. As mentioned earlier interference played a part with two models which saw the end for this month of Teresa’s Piccolo after two mins and Ian’s CAP 232 after a further seven mins (actually I fear in my case this was pilot rather than interference, I believe I stalled and failed to recover before the ground leapt up and bit the plane! [Ian]). Brian unfortunately only had a half charged battery so also departed earlier than expected which then left the other six to fight it out to the end. Batteries gradually discharged over the next 20 mins leaving Alan and Bob the only two remaining airborne, Alan then elected to land as he did not want to damage his LiPo pack by over discharging thus allowing Bob to take first place with a 22 min 7 second flight.

Again everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, next time perhaps we will make double figures with the number of entries. The next round will be on 24^th June, see you all then if not before.
