WMF 2008 Competition

2008 Competition Results Round 6 (Final)

This was the last round in this years competition and although the weather had not been favourable all day, or all week for that matter, the rain actually stopped and the wind died down to a very strong breeze, so all the entrants decided it was now or never. The task for round 6 was to fly a few of the BMFA ‘A’ test manoeuvres, as fast as possible. The manoeuvres chosen were as follows :-

1…Take off / Launch and complete one circuit.

2…Fly a horizontal figure eight.

3…Fly a circuit in the opposite direction to that flown in 1.

4…Perform a dead stick landing with at least one circuit in the dead stick.

One point would be deducted for each manoeuvre not completed correctly and also one for not landing on the patch, all you had to do was fly as fast and tight as possible, sounds easy !!! As this would have taken some time to explain and for pilots to plan their flight patterns I had decided to give a few clues to this task the week before.

Every one made brave attempts with two or three getting blown off course in the strong wind which also made the dead stick landing difficult to make it back to the patch after the down wind part of the circuit. Most pilots completed the task in under two minutes and would have been faster except for confusion over the opposite direction circuit, but by far the fastest time was by Alan a just under the minute it was only his landing that was a few feet short of the patch which lost him one point allowing Brian to take first place with the aid of his two extra Piccolo points.

The final Results for the competition overall are shown below, which after taking each pilots best four scores, show Alan in first place followed by Brian and Teresa. All the scores for those pilots who completed at least four rounds are fairly close which I feel shows that the competition was fairly well balanced and allowed many different models and pilots to compete on an equal level.

Many thanks to all those who helped me in the running of this years comp and also to all those who took part, I think they all enjoyed it from the comments I received after each round. Now’s the time start thinking about what next years competition could be.
